Starting a Business

Select a Business Structure

There are several ways to organize businesses in Illinois, each having advantages and disadvantages. A businesses structure must be determined before it can be registered with any entity.

Register with the State

LLC or S Corp must register with the Illinois Department of Business Services. If a business is registered with the state, they do not need to register with the county.

Register with the County

An assumed name or DBA (Doing Business As) is a necessary step in registering a business. McLean County requires that all assumed names be registered with the County Clerk. Follow the steps below to register a business with McLean County.

Step One: Learn How to File with the County

Step Two: Complete County Registration Form

Register with the Town of Normal

To operate within the Town of Normal, a business must also register with the Town Clerk once registration with the State or County has been completed.
