There are several ways to organize businesses in Illinois, each having advantages and disadvantages. A businesses structure must be determined before it can be registered with any entity.
Register with the State
LLC or S Corp must register with the Illinois Department of Business Services. If a business is registered with the state, they do not need to register with the county.
Register with the County
An assumed name or DBA (Doing Business As) is a necessary step in registering a business. McLean County requires that all assumed names be registered with the County Clerk. ​Follow the steps below to register a business with McLean County.​

Register with the Town of Normal
To operate within the Town of Normal, a business must also register with the Town Clerk once registration with the State or County has been completed.
